Aspire

Commissioned by Pam Hargreaves from Aspire Partnership in December 2005, to research work experience in schools regionwide.We planned to have 8 agenda days throughout the region. Looking at what young people think of work experience they have gained, bow could it be changed. Generally their views on the whole work experience system. Meeting with Pam every two months to feed back findings.

Assistant Commissioner

To support two year 9 students and a reference group from Woodham Technology College to seek the views of children and young people in the North East. These views will inform the work of the office of the Children’s Commissioner in London, who are partners in this. Began in July 2006. Initial work to find out views of other young people in September 2006.

Drum Lane Group (Travellers) The aim of this project is to develop a rapport with children, young people and families on the Drum Lane Travellers site in Chester-le-street to find their views. A number of workers will be working with the children and young people on the site from September 2006 onwards
Early Onset Psychosis

Work commissioned by CAMHS strategy to involve young people in the early psychosis service to find out what they want. Agenda day to be established in October 2006. Meeting underway with managers of the service and linking in with teams from North and South of County Durham. Began in May 2006.

Listening to Children Listening to young people’s reference group informs the Listening to Children strategy. The reference group meets every month with members of the Children's Services Management Team of Durham County Council to oversee the strategy. The group is involved in monitoring the Max Card, Driving Lesson Scheme, Natural Allies, NYAS (National Youth Advocacy Service) and they produce a yearly newsletter for all children and young people in touch with children’s services (except those placed in permanence for adoption).
MALAP

Multi Agency Looked After Partnership (MALAP) meets every three months and the work streams meet in between to develop the five areas (Be healthy, enjoy and achieve, economic well being, stay safe, make a positive contribution). There is also a training development subgroup as well as an arts strategy in development. The aim of this work is to develop services for looked after young people both targeted and universal. The role of the MALAP young people's reference group is to inform and support the work of the bigger group. 

PPIF (Public Patient Involvement Forum)

Young people to research how young people are treated in hospitals, the environment, staff, food, decoration.  Maybe have agenda days, questionnaires to gather young peoples views, hospital visits. A conference may be held in Autumn 2006 to present their findings.

Sexual Health Group

Commissioned  by Gail Thompson to carry out ‘mystery shopping’ in family planning clinics, set up a group of young people to research the service in which family planning clinics provide such as staff attitudes, environment, information, location of clinics etc.  Began in July 2005.

Social Work Training Young people planning a conference for social work students from the North East. Young people from the North East are from Investing in Children, Disc young carers, Barnardo’s, Sunderland Social Services Department will be running workshops at the conference and follow up workshops throughout the academic year. Began February 2006.
The Children's Society and Liverpool University - Don't Just Tick the Box. The aim of this project is to bring together a steering group of older young people from around the county to plan a series of seminar events looking at the rights/issues of children and young people in England. This will lead on to a conference in Liverpool in 2008. So far young people have prepared a paper for a conference in Geneva for September 2006.
