Natural Allies

The Natural Allies programme offers support to children and young people to ensure their voice is heard in the decisions that are made affecting them and on their behalf.

This can be during reviews, when things are troubling or concerning them, when they feel they should be heard and when they feel they need either more or less support and help in a variety of situations such as school, activities, respite care and when they are in care.

The aim of the programme is to ensure children and young people can have a say in the decisions that are made about their education, additional support needs or care needs.

The programme helps children and young people to identify someone they feel comfortable talking to and helps them to appoint their Natural Ally as well as offering ongoing support to ‘Natural Allies’ in their role.

A Natural Ally is someone who spends time with a child or young person and helps them to put across their thoughts, ideas and feelings.

They speak up for the child or young person or support the child or young person to speak up for themselves.

They make sure a child or young person’s views, ideas or wishes are listened to and taken seriously.

If you think you could benefit from having a Natural Ally, know someone who could or would just like some more information... please contact Michelle.
