Drive Project
Brief Description/Aims of the Group:
The Drive Project was developed and is overseen by the Children's Right's Officer and the Listening to Children Reference Group. The scheme is avalible to young people who are looked after by the local authority and care leavers aged 17-24 years old. The project enables these young people to access driving lessons with financial support from Durham County Council. The authority pay for every other driving lesson, the theory test and practical test. The Children's Rights Officer can also provide support materials to enable young people to practice for their theory test.
Application to the Drive scheme is made through the young person and the young person's advisor or social worker.
Young people are asked to complete an evalution of the scheme on successful completion of their driving test.
Work to Date:
Various agenda days have been completed to evaluate the project and regular discussion takes place within the Listening to Children group regarding any queries from young people or workers and regarding effectiveness and evaluation.
