David Lammy visits Young People
at Newcastle Library
Newcastle
City Library received Investing in Children in September this year
because of the positive partnership work with a group of young people on
the developments of a new Library to be built in 2009. The group also
made changes to the Library by introducing new ideas to the existing
Library service which were:
-
Book of
the Month decided by young people for young people.
-
A list
of children’s books, that children can get on CD and tape, with the
introduction of a sticker so that children and young people know
they are in those formats.
-
Young
people can now say if a book they have read is “I’m a good read for
kids”.

The Culture
Minister David Lammy visited the group when he was recently in Newcastle
to find out what the group have been doing with Newcastle City Library.
He also gave out the Investing in Children membership certificate for
the positive work the library did with the young people, as can been
seen in the pictures.
